This week, I wanna share my favorite quotes on perfectionism. Why? I am glad you asked.
I continue to work with amazing people who have big dreams but feel stuck with fears and self-doubts. This past week, in particular, I coached clients who struggle with a subtle but real version of fear: perfectionism. Together, we had the painfully difficult work of redefining perfectionism and calling it for what it really is: fear. Fear of being judged. Fear of putting ourselves out there. Fear of having our work scrutinized. Fear of failing. Fear of succeeding. It is a sneaky version of fear…so subtle and crafty that it poses as a friend, a badge of pride, something we align and partner with. We use it as an excuse for why we haven’t started, haven’t launched, difficult to please, not going after something we really want. Cause you know some of us wear perfectionism like a badge. Ugh.
Friends, more often than not, perfectionism is fear in disguise. For me, it has been a choke hold that steals the play, fun, and joy out of creating the life, business or relationships of my dreams. Perfectionism often leads to dissatisfaction. In reality, I often used perfectionism as an excuse to stay stuck, stalled, playing small, not starting, critiquing others while staying safe in the stands –never getting in the arena. Can you relate?
So here’s the dealio: Instead of preaching at ya, I am simply posting my favorite quotes on this topic. Would you prayerfully read them all, pick one that stands out to you, and carry it with you this week as you do your work, relate to your loved ones and take risks. By changing your mindset you will move away from the fear and perfectionism that paralyzes us and keeps us away from the life we know is possible.
I am learning afresh that my mindset is the starting place to life and career breakthroughs. As I have shifted my mindset in this area of my life, I have been more willing to show up and take leaps of faith in my life. What would you do, if you didn’t feel the need to be perfect at it? That thing…do it!
